찾다 / 찾는다를 말 할 때, Find를 쓰면 절반 이상의 경우 틀린다.
1. Find
뭔가를 발견하는 그 순간, 일시적이므로 진행형으로 거의 안 쓴다
- I found my key!
2. Look for
찾는 과정, 가장 많이 씀, 이 표현에 익숙해져라.
- I'm looking for my notes. (노트를 뒤적거릴 때)
- I'm looking for a good restaurant in this area. (음식점을 찾을 때)
- I'm looking for a something to do this weekend. (뭘 할지 찾을 때)
- 뭐 찾고 있어? >> Are you looking for something? / What are you looking for?
- I looked for some information (online / on the internet).
3. Search
공간/장소/지역을 뒤지다, 수색하다
- I searched everywhere, and I still can't find my keys. >> 모든 곳을 뒤졌는데, 아직 내 키를 찾지 못했어.
- Did you search your room? >> 니 방에서 찾아 봤어?
- Yeah, I searched my room, I searched my pockets, searched my coat pockets. >> 어, 방이랑 호주머니랑 코트 주머니도 찾아봤어.
- I've been looking for them for two hours. >> 나 그거 2시간동안 찾고 있어. (뒤지는 중이 아니라, 찾고 있는 과정을 이야기 하는 것이므로)
- I can't find them! >> 난 그걸 찾을 수 없어! (발견하는 그 순간이 오지 않는다는 의미이므로)
- 인터넷을 검색하다 >> Search the (internet/online). (인터넷을 뒤지는 것이므로)
- Search the restaurant/store. (X) >> 이러면 음식점을 찾는 게 아니라, 음식점을 뒤진다는 표현이 됨
- I searched the internet and I found some information about the brand. >> 인터넷을 뒤져서 그 브랜드에 대해서 정보를 좀 찾았어.
- I searched the internet (for some information/to find some information).
4. Search for
look for와 비슷하지만, 인터넷에 좀 더 어울림
- I searched for some information (online/on the internet).
Search the internet과 search for some information을 구별할 것
